Getting Married at Porthgwidden Beach Café, St Ives

Laid-back beach wedding at Porthgwidden Beach Café overlooking St Ives Bay

Naomi and Will’s June wedding at Porthgwidden Beach Café in St Ives was everything a seaside wedding should be — hot sunshine, salty air, bare feet in the sand and a completely chilled atmosphere from start to finish.

As a St Ives wedding photographer, this is the kind of day I absolutely love to photograph. Relaxed, joyful and full of genuine moments, it felt more like a perfect summer gathering by the sea than a traditional wedding day.

Set just along the coast from St Ives harbour, Porthgwidden Beach Café is one of the most relaxed and scenic wedding venues in Cornwall. Sitting directly on the beach, it offers uninterrupted views across St Ives Bay and those instantly recognisable colours that make St Ives weddings so special — soft white sand and a turquoise blue sea that sparkles in the summer sun.

The venue is ideal for couples who want a wedding that feels informal and personal, without losing that “wow” factor. With incredible food, a welcoming atmosphere and the beach quite literally on the doorstep, it’s perfect for laid-back celebrations where guests can move effortlessly between sand, sea and sunshine.

Why Porthgwidden Beach Café Is Such a Special St Ives Wedding Venue

One of the things that makes Porthgwidden Beach Café weddings so unique is how naturally the day flows. Naomi and Will’s wedding embraced that completely. As the afternoon went on and the heat built, guests drifted down onto the beach, shoes were kicked off and — in true St Ives style — many guests ended up straight in the sea!

It perfectly captured the spirit of the day: spontaneous, joyful and totally unpretentious. From a St Ives wedding photographer perspective, the setting is unbeatable. The combination of bright white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water and soft coastal light creates images that feel fresh, summery and full of life.

A Hot, Chilled-Out June Wedding Day

June delivered one of those glorious Cornish days where everything feels easy. The sun shone from start to finish, the sea was calm and St Ives was looking its absolute best. Naomi and Will wanted their wedding to feel relaxed and unstructured — no rushing, no pressure, just time to enjoy the moment.

One of the highlights of the day was the beach games, which brought everyone together and created so much laughter. Kids and adults alike got involved, and it led to the most natural, joy-filled moments — exactly the kind of atmosphere that makes for beautiful, honest wedding photography.

Naomi & Will

Naomi and Will were a joy to photograph. Calm, affectionate and completely present, they trusted the day to unfold naturally. We kept their couple portraits simple and unforced — a gentle wander along the shoreline, St Ives harbour in the distance, and through classic St Ives streets.

Their connection was effortless, and the whole day reflected that — warm, easy-going and full of love.

St Ives Beach Weddings

St Ives has a magic all of its own. The light, the colours, the sense of freedom — it’s a dream location for couples planning a beach wedding that feels relaxed but still incredibly special.

If you’re planning a wedding at Porthgwidden Beach Café (or anywhere along the coast) and you’re looking for a St Ives wedding photographer who captures the day as it naturally unfolds, this is exactly the kind of wedding I love to document.

Naomi and Will’s wedding was sun-soaked, joyful and beautifully simple — proof that the best weddings often happen with sand between your toes and the sea just a few steps away.
