Isles of Scilly Wedding Photography
Tanya & Chris’ Isles of Scilly wedding
Capturing Love on the Isles of Scilly
As a wedding photographer based in Cornwall, Iβve had the privilege of documenting countless beautiful moments, but thereβs something uniquely magical about shooting a wedding on St Mary’s in the Isles of Scilly.Β
The Charm of the Isles of Scilly
Nestled off the southwestern tip of Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly are a hidden gem. With their crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and lush greenery, these islands provide a breathtaking backdrop thatβs hard to find anywhere else in the UK. The archipelago comprises five inhabited islands and numerous smaller ones, each boasting its own unique charm. St Mary’s, the largest of the islands, serves as the central hub and is a perfect wedding destination for those seeking a blend of natural beauty and serene seclusion.
Why Get Married on St Maryβs?
Getting married on St Maryβs is a very special experience. The island’s intimate setting is perfect for small, personal ceremonies. The community is welcoming, and the pace of life is delightfully slow, allowing couples to truly savor every moment of their special day. The Scillies hold a special place in Tanya & Chris’ hearts and it was the natural choice for their wedding. They flew over their nearest and dearest to join them for an intimate celebration.
The ceremony was at the registry office, which is uniquely situated right on Porthcressa Beach and the panoramic sea views were simply breathtaking. We were blessed with gorgeous sunshine on the wedding day and after the ceremony headed straight to the beach for a toast on the golden sand.
The Unique Beauty of the Islands
The beauty of the Isles of Scilly lies in their unspoiled nature. The islands are a haven for wildlife, with a variety of seabirds, dolphins, and seals often making appearances. The flora is equally impressive, with exotic plants thriving in the mild climate. During the wedding shoot, we took advantage of these natural wonders, capturing moments on the pristine beaches and among the subtropical gardens.
After the ceremony at the Porthcressa Beach registry office, we hopped into golf buggies to head to Carreg Dhu Gardens for more photos. The gardens, with their exotic plants and tranquil atmosphere, provided a stunning contrast to the beach backdrop.
Our next stop was Juliet’s Garden for the reception meal. Perched above Hugh Town, Juliet’s Garden offers some of the most spectacular views on the island. We all enjoyed a delicious meal with the most breathtaking scenery.
The Adventure to St Maryβs
The journey to the Isles of Scilly is an adventure in itself, adding to the special nature of the experience. Despite being a remote destination, getting there is surprisingly easy. I chose to travel by air, taking the Skybus from Landβs End. The flight offers breathtaking aerial views of the Cornish coastline and the azure waters of the Atlantic. Watching the islands come into view from the plane, with their white sands and lush greenery, was particularly exciting.Β
Exploring the Islands
In addition to the wedding festivities, I took some time to explore the islands. A boat ride around the archipelago allowed me to witness the incredible wildlife up close. Puffins, seals, and a variety of seabirds were just some of the highlights. The rugged beauty of the smaller, uninhabited islands and the crystal-clear waters made for an unforgettable adventure, further enhancing the magic of the trip.
A Documentary Crew Joins the Celebration
Adding an extra layer of excitement to the wedding, we were joined by a camera crew filming a documentary on life on the Isles of Scilly. This crew captured not only the coupleβs special day but also the unique charm and beauty of island life. Knowing that the couple’s wedding would be part of a documentary made the day even more memorable and special.
