Cornwall Family Photographer
People book family sessions for all kinds of reasons – a special birthday or celebration, family holiday in Cornwall or Devon, or just wanting to mark this stage of family life.
2023 was another busy year that took me all over Cornwall and Devon photographing special family moments, holidays, birthdays and other special occasions. Looking back over these family sesisons I am reminded again of just how important it is to capture these precious times as we just don’t know what will happen in the future. I never take this job for granted and always feel very grateful to be trusted to document these special moments for years to come.
Stunning Cornish Beaches
Cornwall has over 300 beaches – so we are a little spoilt for choice for beautiful backdrops! I absolutely love getting to the beach as often as I can, so I’m always keen to schedule a family session at a beach. The kids love it as they can play and enjoy themselves, not forced to sit still and say cheese! I know the dog friendly beaches too if you want your furry friend to join your family portrait.
Family portraits Cornwall & Devon
I live on the border of Cornwall and Devon and have spent a lot of time exploring this region. If you have a specific location in mind and it’s not too far from Liskeard I’m always happy to explore new places. Equally if you are a visitor to Cornwall and need some guidance on where to do the session, I have my favourite spots that I can recommend and know they work well for family shoots.
Make the most of family celebrations
Often people come to Cornwall on family holidays. This is a great opportunity to get some family photographs taken. I love these large extended family gatherings and seeing everyone enjoying being together. Often people comment on how much fun the photo shoot was and gives you memories to look back on for years to come.
Welcome to the camera shy!
The majority of my clients say they donβt like being photographed – and I understand this completely! This is where finding a photographer you connect with and who specialises in a natural style of photography is so important. I always go to great lengths to make people feel relaxed and at ease β I am usually chatting away, providing only the occasional prompt of what to do, perhaps finding something to make you laugh, but the idea is to distract you from the camera and any feelings of self-consciousness. All you need to do is be yourselves, interact with each other and a great photographer will do the rest!
Go adventure
Being outdoors has such a relaxing effect on people that they often forget they are being photographed – it definitely leads to far more natural, and successful, photographs. Family sessions often involve going for a walk. Let the kids explore, play and be themselves. I love to document those magic moments of childhood and incorporate nature and the environment wherever I can.
Make memories
It really is a privilege to be asked to capture those special family moments. Itβs something I never take lightly or for granted at all. As a mother myself, I am so aware of the passing of time and how kids grow and change so quickly. The days are long but the years are short as they say! It is an investment in your family history to make time to capture this moment in your family story and I love to create images that are emotive and take you right back to how you felt in that moment.Β
It was so hard to narrow down my favourite shots this year as there was just too many! I haven’t even included my favourites from the Christmas minis! Keep scrolling to see some of my favourite shots from 2023. Β I also shoot a lot of weddings so 2024 is booking up fast. Spring and Autumn tend to be the best times to book family shoots but I try to fit in as many as I can as I love doing them.
