Carnglaze Caverns

St Neot, Cornwall

We actually thought we’d seen it all. But this gorgeous wedding shoot in a CAVE knocked our socks off!

When I first met Abi from Carnglaze Caverns and she told me about her venue, I was immediately intrigued and just knew I had to shoot there. After hearing about the underground cavern with it’s own crystal clear lake I knew it would be something special.
Carnglaze Caverns is a unique venue in every way. An old Cornish Slate mine, Abi’s parents – Graham & Caroline, have turned it into a successful family tourist attraction, concert venue and in recent years a wedding venue for couples looking for something special.

I knew it would be tricky photography conditions as it is completely pitch black in the cave apart from a small amount of fixed lighting. The caves are also home to bats and therefore no flash photography is allowed. This shoot took me back to one of my favourite projects at university (many moons ago) where I did a lot of night photography and specifically used light to create magical images out of otherwise very ordinary spaces. Never one to shy away from a challenge I knew we could create something magical and beautiful here.

“this candlelit loveliness is romantic, ethereal, and full of twinkling magic!”

We had an amazing team of suppliers involved on this shoot and special thanks goes to Sara from Peony & Lace who immediately got my vision and helped recruit a fantastic team of suppliers to bring the whole thing together. We wanted to create something ethereal but with an edge and wanted to showcase the venue in all it’s beauty.

We went with an Autumn rust colour palette to compliment the surrounding woodland and the flecks of orange that appear in the slate. Sue at Cornish Moor Flowers created a bouquet of dried flowers using pampas grass, bunny tails, honesty, eucalyptus and roses. A matching buttonhole was provided for Shane and a further arrangement of dried flowers acted as a centrepiece in the area licenced for civil ceremonies inside the caverns.

Megan wears this gorgeous wedding dress from Evolved Bridal – The β€˜Melly’ dress by Rara Avis is stunning with its flowing skirt, open back and sheer sleeves. To give the look an edge, the gown was paired with hand-painted Dr Martens and a custom biker jacket by Inanna Bespoke Shoes. She’s also rocking some fab accessories – a dried flower crown from Luna & Wild, and an array of accessories from Bunny Loves Evie, including a headpiece, necklace and earrings.

Claire’s Sweet Temptations provided an elopement style cake. She designed a slate-coloured cake accented with dried flowers from The Cornish Flower Company in the autumn-rust colour palette.Β

Toni Gogola Wedding Hair created a hairstyle of long loose waves, really showing off Megan’s long red locks. Nicola Redman Makeup chose to keep the makeup natural on Megan with shades of peach and orange to tie in the colour palette with a gentle shimmer on her eyes.Β
